Decks: best wood by part

1) Framing (joists, beams, ledger)

Pick: pressure-treated pine. It is strong, economical, and designed for this job. Use the correct Use Category for the exposure, and do not skip flashing at the ledger. Wood does not fail because it is “bad wood” as often as it fails because water gets trapped.
